Hats off the Republican Party’s crop of candidates for the presidential nomination. They are all completely batshit crazy insane to a man — and Michelle Bachmann.

At least The Wicked Witch of the North has pulled out of the race so she can continue to do what she does best as a politician: fuck all.

It’s now with incredulity that we see the rise of Rick Santorum – a man whose name is a synonym for the nasty mess you can get after anal sex – a soup of spunk/lube and shit if you will.

Poor Ricky is in a tizz because of this association, started by a disgruntled op ed writer after Mr S compared homosexuals to dog-fuckers.

I’ll be honest and say that this post is to add some links to the Santorum definition website so Google will keep it ranked highly while Mr Homophobia is allowed to hang himself in the primaries by opening his mouth.

Oh, and if you’re wishing to add to the good fight against these fuckwits, do a Google search for “Santorum” and click on the paid listings at the top of the results. This is for the real Mr S’s website, but he’ll be paying for every click through even though you should have no intention of giving him one cent. If you do have intention to give him money, please don’t be a douche.

I used to think Americans were dumb. Then I met some I liked who are actually quite clever. Then I started paying attention to current affairs. Now I’m back in the “Americans are dumb” camp.

I cannot believe how it’s ok to not “believe” in climate change (or “global warming” as it’s still inaccurately often referred to). Listen people, something is true whether you believe it or not. Sticking your fingers in you ears and going la-la-la I’m not listening may have worked when you were five years old, but not so when you are supposedly all growned up.

Also, just because it snows a bit in New York City, it doesn’t mean that there aren’t global problems. You really don’t get the whole climate thing if you think that weather in one city in one state in half of one continent represents the planet. No, Earth is much bigger than America. I know, it’s hard to believe.

What really tops it off are the fanatical right wing bat shit religious nutjobs (and many not so nutjobby) who believe in god and that the bible is literally true…even though there is not one shred of evidence to prove the existence of god. Yet they think that climate science is more than a bit made up.

I therefore conclude that if you deny climate change you are an idiot. A complete fucking idiot.

The cost of gas rises again and the news channels send out their roving reporters to track down the dimmest fucktards they can find filling up their cars.

Cue a montage of people standing next to their behemoths lamenting the “fact” that “nobody can afford to drive anymore.”

Quite.

Except it’s bullshit. There is never one hint or irony that their 5 litre vehicle may be the problem for it costing a “small fortune” to fill. A gallon of gas in the USA is still less than HALF what it is in the UK. If, as is often claimed, the US economy will suffer if gas prices rise any further, then something REALLY needs to be done quick-sharp to reduce the country’s reliance on oil. Why? Because it ain’t gonna get any cheaper in the future. Rising gas prices are inevitable. Supply and demand, see. While China and India boom, they’re going to want more oil which in turn will increase the price on the open market. Get used to it, America. Free markets are what you’re all about, right?

I mentioned on Facebook that cheap gas wasn’t a birthright for Americans. An (American) family member commented they had seen (on Fox News, no doubt) Europeans protesting about the loss of their “non-birthright” public services too. I had to laugh. You can’t compare cheap gas to public services. I also had to laugh because in the UK, the welfare state WAS a birthright established after the Second World War. Its eroding and undermining since the late 1970s doesn’t detract from the fact the in the UK we have come to expect care from the cradle to the grave. Yes the world has changed and society become more complex. The management and delivery of services has also changed. At heart, though, the British public still cherish the idea of collective welfare; any government that undermined the NHS would be out on their ear.

So please do not compare protests about cutting of welfare to rising gas prices.

What utter douchebags. I’m just sayin’.

So, it’s time to write to Ed Royce, our representative in the House. This is what I wrote, short and sweet:

——-

Dear Representative Royce

I note that today the House of Representatives have voted to repeal President Obama’s healthcare bill.

I have a very simple question for you:

Why do you wish to prevent me from obtaining healthcare?

Regards

Peter Hobley

——

I don’t expect a reply, as he doesn’t reply to his constituents. Well, no us at least.

I admit that I have become somewhat disheartened by the bat-shit crazy behaviours of politicians in this country.

I always though the UK’s Conservative Party were a bunch of evil, selfish bastards. Oh no, compared to the Right in the USA, the Tories are practically socialist.

As President Obama struggles to do his job against the childish hostage-taking Republican Party, I felt compelled to let our representative, Ed Royce, know how we feel about some issues he refuses to support. I have a feeling this is going to become a regular occurrence as he will no doubt never cease to disappoint any decent thinking human being.

So below I present what I wrote to Rep. Royce. It’s about the Republican’s refusal to support those people who are sick and dying following exposure to toxins at Ground Zero following the terror attacks of 9/11/2001.

It’s funny how the party that used the attacks to further their own political ambitions and launch wars can’t be arsed to looked after the heroes of that horrific time.

Oh no, it’s not funny. It’s fucking disgraceful.

———–
Dec 10 2010

Dear Representative Royce

Earlier this year my wife, Jennifer Sullivan, contacted you asking why you had not supported the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act. To date we have not received a reply from you.

I hear today that an amended version of the act has been filibusted in the Senate by Republicans. It is my understanding this is due to the Republican Party’s refusal to support any bills until President Obama extends tax cuts for all Americans – even those earning over $250,000 per year.

Refusal to assist those who put their own lives at risk on 9/11 is disgraceful. I urge you to encourage your Republican colleagues to put the interests of those with greatest need over millionaires and billionaires.

People who were exposed to all manner of toxic waste on and after 9/11/2001 are HEROES who should be looked after, not let down and left to die.

Regards

Peter Hobley

——–

Of course, I don’t actually expect a reply from Rep Royce. I didn’t get one when I wrote earlier about the refusal of the GOP to extend unemployment benefits until or that rich friends had their tax cuts extended.

There’s been a big bru-ha-ha in the press these past couple of days because of the antics of Steven Slater – a (now ex) flight attendant for JetBlue airways.

I’ll spare you the details as they are easily available. However, I will comment on some of the reaction to the event that sparked Steven’s spectacular “I quit” moment.

On the one side there are those who laugh and proclaim “Nice one son! Stick it to ‘em!” while on the other we find those who tut and shake their heads. They declare that he should have “maintained his professionalism” and “If he didn’t like working with the public then he should have sought a different career”.

To the latter I say fuck that. The guy had worked the airlines for twenty years so no doubt had his fair share of tossers. Every person has their limit. The incident with that awful woman was his, and he went postal. Good. If it makes just one rude, arrogant, selfish arsehole more aware that they make the flying experience unpleasant for the rest of us, then it will have been worth it.

I also hope the passenger that caused the injury to Steven and disobeyed his instructions is charged. They did commit a felony, after all.

We all deserve one “I’m outta here” moment. Mine was in 1999 in a hospital in London. After three weeks of hell, trying to please a woman who would not be pleased, I said enough was enough. I walked out with a flourish…only to reenter the office moments later when I realised I hadn’t taken my jacket. This did, however, allow me to see the look on my boss’s face for a second time – she’d thought I’d come back to say sorry! Not bloody likely.

Unfortunately my exit didn’t involve beer or an escape chute.

God hates fags, apparently. Quite right too – they give you lung cancer. Oh, hang on you mean “fags” as in homosexuals? Does S/He? Really?

If you believe Fred Phelps and his Westboro Baptist Church gang of nasty, hate filled bags of vileness, then yes, God hates “fags”… and Canadians… and Mexicans… and America. Oh, ok he hates just about everyone and everything.

Well that’s nice. But hang on. Let’s go back to homosexuals. God hates them, right? But if you believe in God, then you accept that God created us all and everything in the Universe. Apart from the bigger question of who the fuck created God in the first place (an argument by which all religion instantly collapses), this means that God created homosexuals. Let’s repeat that: God created homosexuals.

So why did God create homosexuals? If they’re so evil, why do they exist? Are they in some way “flawed” humans? But didn’t God create us in His own image? Right, so we’re made from God, by God and flawed.. so is God flawed then? Bit of a shit god if he can’t make straight humans without the odd bender slipping through the net. Talk about crap quality control. He wouldn’t last 10 minutes assembling iPhones in a Chinese factory.

Of course, it could just be that people like Fred Phelps (and many “normal” religions – they don’t escape criticism) are just angry, bitter fuckwits who have too much time on their hands. Oh, and in answer to this post’s title – yes, they appear to be mad. Pretty, pretty mad.

A recent TV commercial sees two brothers “competing” to pay for transactions at shops, fast food and gas stations.
Why? Because by “getting it” with their Chase cashback debit cards they get – you guessed it – cashback. This is usually a small percentage of the transaction’s total – upto 3% in Chase’s case, but I’m prepared to wager it’s a lot less most of the time.

Why is this commercial annoying and stupid? Because if the brothers actually let the other pay, they’d save ALL of the cost of the transaction. What’s better? Getting 3% back on a $75 purchase, or just keeping all of the $75?

This sorry tale began back in November 2009 when I passed my California driving test. Then the wait began, which saw me losing my patience and starting a letter campaign. My final throw of the dice was a letter to the DMV’s director.

I’m happy to report that the latter did the trick. Last week I was telephoned by Brenda, a very helpful senior manager at Sacramento HQ. She explained to me the reason for the delay had been because they did not have my immigration status in the system. I was therefore not ‘legit’ until that was proven. Luckily, in my letter I had enclosed a copy of my permanent resident’s card. That did the trick. Brenda explained that that very day, my application was being finalised and she would be in receipt of my license by the beginning of this week. It was, and she forwarded it to me. I now am the proud owner of my California license, even if I do look like a thug in my photograph.

Hang on though. That’s not the end of the story. No sir. Now the post-mortem. I want to know why I had to write to the director to get any action. In my previous unanswered letters I expressly asked what the problem was and if I could supply any further information to help the process. I got no response. It was Brenda who finally informed me it was because they didn’t have all my information. See where this is going? So, my next letter to the DMV (in which I will thank Brenda) will also ask: If my record didn’t show the right information, when exactly was someone going to ask me for it? This was despite four letters from me offering up information.

*sigh*

Yes folks, I still have not received my California driver’s license photocard from the DMV. It’s been nearly six months since I passed my test at Fullerton DMV, and I’m still waiting patiently.

When I say patiently, I am actually starting to lose my rag a bit because it’s beyond a joke now. It’s made even more annoying because my dear brother-in-law who has only been in the USA since February passed and received his license within a two week period. So, clearly “verification of status” doesn’t need to take six months. I think I am well and truly jammed in the system.

So, I have upped the ante and written a letter to California DMV’s director – a Mr George Valverde – enclosing copies of all previous (unanswered) correspondence and politely asking him WTF is going on. Realistically I don’t expect him to reply to me, but my hope is that it gets passed to someone who will be made to give a shit about their job and who may actually sort this problem out.

If not, then I shall send another letter to Mr Valverde before further increasing the stakes and seeing what the Governator Mr Schwarzenegger (who appointed Mr Valverde) has to say on the matter.
