Oldest snowboarders on the slopes at Mt High, California

This past weekend I crossed off another of the “things to do before I die” list when Rick and I went up to Mountain High resort in Wrightwood, California.

At 39 years old I have never attempted to ski or snowboard, so this was a big first for me. Rick has been a few times before so knows the score. I admit I was nervous and apprehensive when we first arrived, but soon I was sucked in to the ticket and rental system and didn’t have time to worry too much as I was pushed hither and thither. I had purchased a complete package of ski lift pass, gear and two lessons for $89 which I will say was jolly good value.

Anyway, long story bearable, after a hopeless shaky start I started to get my balance and began to realize that I could actually snowboard (a bit). I still have lots of practice to do but can stand up and get down the slope in one piece.

It’s just a shame I have discovered this great fun activity toward end of the season as I really enjoyed it and can’t wait to get better at it. Still, there’s been plenty of snow this winter so hopefully the mountain will be open for a few weeks yet. They’re talking the middle of April which, if true, will be cool.

I couldn’t help noticing though that Rick and I were the oldest snowboarders in town. The best part though was enjoying the ice and mountains, then home for a cold beer on the patio in the sun. Yep, can’t beat California.
