Long time coming

Well folks, it’s been some time since I last posted. Not exactly regular, am I?

To tell the truth, I haven’t been inspired to blog ever since I went for my visa at the US embassy in London. It’s not because nothing interesting has happened, but more because a lot of it has been rather tedious and I haven’t wanted to think about them again and spit them out here. Don’t get me wrong, I have had some good times but I haven’t been inspired to comment on those either!

So why the post now? Because it’s here – the big move. I’m writing this in my room at a Travelodge on an old industrial estate at the end of Heathrow’s southern runway. What a way to spend my last couple of days in England.

First let’s rewind the clock and muse over what’s been happening in the last few weeks. First was my visa in London. That went without major incident, although was rather tedious and expensive. Then Jennifer and Dott left for California, leaving me in a rapidly emptying house. I must admit I was going a little stir-crazy with most of the furniture gone. Gradually I was ebaying, selling and Freecycling everything until I was left with my meagre possessions. The time them came to leave Ludworth for the last time and head off on my grand tour.

The tour has seen me visit Criccieth, Bangor, Stalybridge, Newton le Willows, Borth, Cardiff (where I sold the car) and now… Heathrow. I’m here for two nights in order to catch up with some of my southern chums. It’s not exactly the most exciting place to be stuck in. I’ve found a couple of shops in a village about a mile away, and I’ve been to buy some stamps (rock and roll). Other then that, I’m trying to get some work done (and a bit of blogging) before going out for some curry tonight. I had quite a bit of curry in the last few weeks, but as decent curries will be few and far between in California I can’t really complain.

I still find it a bit surreal that I’m not at the airport to leave for a wedding or holiday. I’m going for good. It doesn’t seem real. I’m a bit nervous about arriving at immigration and whether I shall have a hassle-free entry to the US. Other than that I shall kick back, relax and wait.

My next blog-post will see me finally as the O.C. Englishman…
